Taratata Bistrot

A  new French bistrot – Taratata Bistrot joined the French bistro scene in Singapore. The bistrot was rather new ,2 weeks old, I guess. I wonder why new restaurants are opening up around that vicinity ( Bukit Pasoh Road , Telok Ayer Street, Keong Saik Road…etc ). Apart from competition, I guessed the vicinity had its charm to be able to attract foodies all over Singapore.

Usually when people hear French cuisine, they would associate with Fine dining. However, this is usually not the case in France .According to the restaurant manager Beatrice ( whom was a French), explained to me the culture in France which is bistrot style and the French seldom dine at Fine dining restaurants. You can see bistrot along every street and road and the French loves the country style food!

Beatrice hopes to introduce the food culture of France – Bistrot, country-styled food and affordable pricing to Singapore  .

Bistot Style

Set lunch menu

Currently, they are only offering the 3 course set lunch during lunch hours. The 3 course set lunch is priced at $32++ and the ala-carte menu is available for dinner. I took a quick glance at the ala-carte menu and realised the dishes are more or less similar to the set lunch menu.

Prawn and Avocado salad with Cocktail sauce

Generally speaking, the presentation was lovely. The prawns were fresh but slightly a little tough and dry . I enjoyed the slices of avocado and the cocktail sauce though.

Seared fresh tuna with black peppercorns and marinated tomatoes

I hope the tuna was not imported from Japan ( cross fingers XxxxxX)!

The slices of tuna were thick and I can literally taste the freshness of tuna. The tomatoes seemed to be marinated in either plum vinegar or some type of alcohol. It was slightly tangy, sweet yet a little salty but it goes well with the tuna fish.

Sauteed cod fillet with spinach and roasted potatoes

I had the sauteed cod for mains and it was lovely.

The cod was slightly crispy on the outside and the inner was moist and flaky. The roasted potatoes were delicious too . A creamy lemon butter sauce added a final touch to the oily fish.

Verdict: Perhaps it was a Monday afternoon, the bistrot was quiet, human traffic was low ( even ember was not full). Personally, I enjoyed all the 3 dishes. The chef paid attention to little details , presentation was lovely and the flavours of the food was not too strong or heavy. I would definitely drop by again if I were to travel to Chinatown.
