Alcova

The CBD area is a food haven … Think of Lau Pa Sat, Market Street Car park, Telok Ayer Street , Maxwell Market… all the great stuffs are clustered there. I wouldn’t mind travelling all the way to the CBD area to enjoy those good. One problem – TOO CROWDED! If you wanna enjoy a quiet & slow lunch, the CBD area is definitely out.

Alcova , located at the Market Street Carpark offers modern fusion dishes . It has a cosy bar which is great for a perfect drink after office hours.

Alcova Salad bar

Alcova is popular for it’s buffet salad bar priced at $13.80++ which comes with free flow of bread and a drink . You get to refill your salad until you feel satisfied.

I like the restaurant set-up. It is simple and comfortable with a bar area for drinking , salad bar dining area. They provide LCD TV for diners to listen to the news while eating and food pictures from the restaurants to tempt the appetite further.

Weekly set lunch menu

Alcova offers a pre-fix 2 or 3 courses weekly set lunch menu priced at $28++ and $36++ respectively. The dishes are rather small in portion.

Peppered tuna salad

I enjoyed this salad with black-peppered crusted tuna that was incredibly fresh ( like sashimi). The salad has a mixture of green olives and cherry tomatoes tossed in a sesame vinaigrette which goes very well with the salad.

Close up

Pan fried seabass, parmesan crusted potatoes, tomato fondue

There were 3 choices for mains and I had the Pan fried Seabass. The portion is small , the fish fillet is probably the size of my palm . The fish is fresh and slightly pan-fried till crisp.  I enjoyed tomato fondue served alongside .

Another shot

Verdict: The food portion is rather small but generally the food is not too bad. I find the service here a little too ” Attentive”. They constantly walk around your table, refilling water, clearing plates and replenishing the bread. They also gave an impression of trying to ” rush” you to finish off your food quickly. On the whole, the food is above average.

**Reservations are highly recommended
